Also, financial aid is often available to pay for technical, trade, or vocational school programs. Many different types of schools, not just colleges and universities, have financial assistance available to students.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.fafsa.ed.gov" target="_blank">Free Application for Federal Student Aid </a>(FAFSA) is the first step in the financial aid process.  Using the information on your FAFSA, the financial aid office at your college will determine the amount of aid (i.e. scholarships, grants, work-study, and loans) that you will receive.</p>

<p><strong>In order to receive federal student aid there are requirements.</strong></p>
<p>The following is a list of <strong><em>some</em></strong> of the requirements:</p>

<li>You must be a United States citizen or eligible noncitizen of the United States <em>with </em>a valid Social Security Number (SSN).</li>
<li>You must have a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, or have completed homeschooling. If you don’t, you may still be eligible for federal student aid if you were enrolled in college or career school prior to July 1, 2012. Go to <a href="http://studentaid.ed.gov/eligibility/basic-criteria" target="_blank">http://studentaid.ed.gov/eligibility/basic-criteria</a> for additional information.</li>
<li>You must enroll in an eligible program as a regular student seeking a degree or certificate.</li>
<li>You must be making satisfactory academic progress.</li>
<li>If you are a male between the ages of 18 and 25, you must register or already be registered with Selective Service. You must also register if you are not currently on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. If you are a citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands or the Republic of Palau you are exempt from registering (see <a href="http://www.sss.gov" target="_blank">www.sss.gov</a> for more information).</li>
<li>If you were convicted for the possession or sale of illegal drugs for an offense that occurred while you were receiving federal student aid (such as grants, loans, or work-study), you must complete the Student Aid Eligibility Worksheet to determine if you are <em>Eligible for aid </em>or <em>Partially Eligible for aid</em>.</li>
<li>You must not owe a refund on a federal grant or be in default on a federal education loan.</li>
<li>You must have financial need (except for unsubsidized Stafford loans).</li>

<p>Federal Student Aid is required to collect signatures from you and a parent (if applicable) to verify the information entered on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).</p>
<p>There are three ways to sign:</p>

<li>Electronically with a PIN</li>
<li>By printing, signing, and mailing a signature page after you submit the FAFSA</li>
<li>By signing your Student Aid Report (SAR) and returning it in the mail</li>
</ul>
<p>TIP: The application process <em>is faster</em> if you use your PIN to sign your application electronically.</p>
<p>If you already have a PIN you can use it to sign your FAFSA from one year to the next.</p>
<p>If you have lost or forgotten your PIN you need to request a duplicate. You can request a duplicate PIN by clicking <strong>Request A Duplicate PIN</strong> on the left side of the PIN Home Page. You must answer your challenge question in order to request a duplicate PIN.</p>

Scholarships do not typically need to be paid back, though some scholarships have program requirements and/or obligations.  New scholarships are created all the time. <p>While it is understood that students and families have the primary responsibility of paying for higher education, sometimes a family's resources are not enough to pay all college expenses.  The <em>La Casa Student Housing Scholarship</em> provides funds to Illinois students who (1) attend degree granting colleges or universities in Illinois and (2) demonstrate financial need, based on careful review of the information provided on:</p>
<ul>
<li>a complete <a href="http://lacasastudenthousing.org/application-process/">La Casa Student Housing Application</a>;</li>
<li>proof of household size and income; and</li>
<li>a copy of the financial aid award letter provided by the college that you plan to attend.</li>
</ul>
<p>Students are not required to submit grades or test scores when applying for a <em>La Casa Student Housing Scholarship</em>.  All residents of La Casa Student Housing are required to sign a <em>La Casa Living-Learning Agreement.</em></p>

<p>The<em> La Casa Student Housing Scholarship</em> awards can be applied only toward monthly payment of rent at La Casa Student Housing (an initiative of The Resurrection Project).  All scholarship awards will be paid directly to your rent account, which is managed by the Department of Property Management at The Resurrection Project.</p>
<p>Currently, four scholarship award levels exist and are subject to annual funding.  Annual award amounts are determined by an analysis of a financial circumstances, household size, and other information provided by each student applicant.  A student who does not fulfill the full-length of the agreed upon leasing period forfeits any balance on the <em>La Casa Student Housing Scholarship</em>.</p>
<p>Range of current annual award amounts for eligible students:</p>
<ul>
<li>Level 1: up to $450</li>
<li>Level 2: up to $1,350</li>
<li>Level 3: up to $2,250</li>
<li>Level 4: up to $3,150 </div>

<p>To be eligible, a student must:</p>
<ul>
<li>meet all eligibility criteria to live at La Casa Student Housing, including full-time undergraduate level enrollment</li>
<li>be an Illinois resident (If you are considered a"dependent" for your college’s financial aid process, the parent whose information is used must be an Illinois resident)</li>
<li>demonstrate financial need</li>
<li>be enrolled full-time each term at a degree granting, accredited college or university in Illinois</li>
<li>maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by your college</li>
</ul>
<p>It is important for you to know the following:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Proof of College Enrollment</strong>: Students who receive a <em>La Casa Student Housing Scholarship</em> will be required ongoing full-time enrollment at a degree-granting, accredited college or university in Illinois.  Enrollment verification is required each school term to prove student standing, that is, whether you are enrolled full-time or not.  It must include student’s name, class and college, major, dates of term, and enrollment status.  Any <em>Enrollment Verification Form</em> printed more than one month prior to submission is not valid. </div>

<li><strong>Submit proof of income.  </strong>Students that earn income must attach copies of proof of income for the most recent 3 months.  In the case of students who are under the age of 18 or are dependent, attach tax proof of income for parent(s) or legal guardian(s).</li>

<li><strong>Submit a copy of the financial aid award letter from the college that you plan to attend.  </strong>A student that wishes to be considered for a <em>La Casa Student Housing Scholarship</em> and/or plans to use financial aid programs to pay for La Casa Student Housing must attach a copy of the college financial aid award letter for the academic year.</li>
</ul>
<p>Eligibility and announcement of an award amount (if any), is performed at the time that a complete La Casa Student Housing Application (with all required signatures) and supporting documentation is processed by La Casa staff.  <em>Only if you are eligible will a La Casa Student Housing Scholarship amount appear on the La Casa invitation to sign a lease.</em></div>

<p><em>La Casa Student Housing Scholarship</em> funds are awarded on the basis of a student’s demonstrated financial need.  Scholarship funds are credited to a student’s rental account in equal monthly installments over the course of a three-, nine- or twelve-month leasing period.<strong>  </strong>Please note that if a student does not fulfill the full-length of the agreed upon leasing period, any remaining balance on the scholarship award is forfeited. </div>

<p>NYT reporter <a title="nytimes" href="http://tracking.etapestry.com/t/25422368/908809636/55135583/0/" target="_blank">Michael Winerip</a> visited with The Resurrection Project in September, and took a tour of La Casa, the Resource Center, and other TRP properties. He met with our CEO, Raul Raymundo, and interviewed several students and parents.
